ALF Stories
Alf
Alf was my first Shar Pei in 1990 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a 90 pound Fawn Horse coat. At the time I had a paint and body shop on Oakland Park Blvd. The shop door was in the back facing an alley behind the shop. I had a bass boat on a trailer behind the shop and took Alf out and chained him to the winch support at the front of the trailer. One day at around 10.00 AM I heard a racket going on out back and when I got out there, there were 3 kids on bikes teasing him on his chain, so I go out and talk to the kids and ask them not to tease the dog. He could injure his throat with his collar so away they went. About 30 minutes later 1 boy came back. He was on his second pass when I got to the door and Alf hit the end of his chain only this time he had that little wheel under the jack turned just right and the front of the trailer cut loose and he turned that boat around which put him in the alley and he hit the front wheel on that bike and knocked the kid off it, I had to laugh, He was back pedeling trying to get away from that bike and dog. From where I stand, Alf now owns a bike.
The boy takes the wide way around dog and bike, couple cars came and had to go around too cause Alf was trying to eat the tire off it. So the kid comes up and says "Mister, your dogs got my bike." Me: "I see that! do you remember I asked you boys not to tease the dog? Now you know why. The spokes make a sound that hurts his ears. That's why he's still got hold of that front wheel" So he asks me if I'll go get it for him.
Me: "I'll tell you what. He's pretty upset with that bike right now, I'd rather leave him alone now. He thinks that's his bike." So I take the kid in the shop and pull out a bag of Purina ONE 18 lb bag in those days 22.00+tax. ME: "You go get him a bag just like this, Publix just down the block has it, and Time you get back he might settle down." So off he went, Alf still in the alley with his new toy. It's now like noon or so, so I get back to work painting a Motor Home, (getting it ready.) Lost track of time and....;.
I'm busy working and next thing I know it's 5.30 and a Buick Roadmaster pulls up. Guy unwinds out of this Buick (Looks Like Rosy Greer) Huge! He looks at Alf who by now gave up on the tire but he's curled up next to it. He says: HIM: "That yo dog?" ME: "gulp uh yeah." He reaches out for my hand and shakes it. He says HIM: "I likes the way you handled my boy today. Lot of people might have cussed him and Yelled at him but you was cool. so come over here." So I walk over to his Buick and he pulls the back door open and he pulls out a bag of Purina ONE and says: HIM "My boy come home say he need a bag of dog food. Funny! We don't have a dog ??? So he tells me why. I say okay, but we get it back I'm keeping it in my trunk til' you pay for that dog food. So can I have the bike now?" ME: "Alf, come here boy!
It surely could have went the other way but we actually became friends over it.God is good, I was Blessed.
